SOCIAL CIRCLE, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A cordial but heated atmosphere filled the school cafeteria in Social Circle on Thursday night as residents gathered for a city council meeting about approving land zoning for a data center. Most were in opposition to rezoning land on the city’s northeast side for new data centers.

One resident voiced strong disapproval during the meeting.

“There is a special place in hell for you if you vote for this,” said one speaker.

Concerns among residents included potential utility increases, water quality issues, and light and noise pollution. The proposed center would be built much closer to town than the existing one located along I-20, a mile to the south.
