BRAINERD — Every football player dreams of a legendary performance, but not all of them get to make that dream a reality.
Even fewer get to do it in the state playoffs, but that’s exactly what Mason Johnson did in Grand Rapids' 54-7 win over Benilde-St. Margaret’s in the Class AAAA quarterfinal Thursday at Brainerd High School.
Johnson’s four touchdowns equaled another legendary, if fictional, football performance — Al Bundy’s four-touchdown game for Polk High — in the first half. Johnson finished with four touchdowns, a sack, a tackle for a loss and, just for good measure, he returned the second half kickoff to the Red Knights' 17-yard line.
