The family of Victoria “Vicky” Hutson, the 37-year-old Selden woman killed in a Boyle Road hit-and-run, is sharing their heartbreak and memories of the woman they say brought warmth and laughter wherever she went.
Hutson was fatally struck around 11:21 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, as she walked along Boyle Road, according to Suffolk County Police. The driver, Lan Huynh Truong, 44, also of Selden, was later arrested and charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident.
Now, her loved ones are speaking out.
“Vicky was more than a daughter, sister, wife and aunt — she was a light in our family and in the lives of everyone who knew her,” her brother, Tommy Hutson, told Daily Voice in an email. “She had a pure heart, a kind spirit, and a smile that could brighten the darkest day.”
The Hutsons are a large, close-knit family of 12 siblings. Tommy said his sister had a rare way of making each person feel like her favorite.
“She had a gift for bringing people together,” he said. “She was the life of every gathering — laughing, dancing, and making sure everyone felt included. Family meant everything to her.”
Friends flooded social media with tributes describing Hutson as “a beautiful soul” whose laughter “lit up the room.” One post read, “This was senseless and unnerving. Sending prayers to your family and the thousands of people you’ve touched with your presence.” Another friend wrote, *“Love on your people because you just never know if God will grant you that time.”*
The family hopes people will remember not just the tragedy, but the person behind the headlines.
“Losing her in such a senseless way has left a void that can never be filled,” Tommy said. “But we are comforted by the memories of her laughter, her kindness, and the love she gave so freely.”
Police continue to investigate the crash. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6553 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
