International travellers have been warned US airports will begin axing flights, as the record-breaking government shutdown causes a shortage of crucial transport workers.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced 10 per cent of flights at 40 “high-traffic” airports would be culled from Friday local time.
The three largest airports in New York City, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport in Texas, and Los Angeles International were among those swept up in the plan.
The plan currently exempts international journeys, though Australians taking flights between airports in the United States could face cancelled trips and limited availabilities on domestic routes.
