A major security scare unfolded at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland on Thursday after a suspicious package containing an unknown white powder was discovered, prompting evacuations and leaving multiple people ill.

According to a statement released by Joint Base Andrews, located just outside Washington, D.C., a building on the base was evacuated after an individual “opened a suspicious package." The discovery triggered an immediate lockdown, with adjoining buildings also cleared as a precaution.
