City of Fremantle mayor Hannah Fitzhardinge has apologised to the Fremantle Society and its president John Dowson over a video message she posted.
A legal stoush broke out after Ms Fitzhardinge posted the video message marking National Reconciliation Week.
In the video, Ms Fitzhardinge referenced feedback from Mr Dowson about the port city’s plans to mark 200 years since colonisation in 2029.
Mr Dowson said the claim had been settled and he and the society were very satisfied with the outcome.
“The Fremantle Society, for 53 years promoting and protecting the heritage of Fremantle, was extremely upset at the video,” he said.
“We took action not just to defend ourselves but for others suffering insidious cancel culture.”
