AUSTIN, Texas — Parents and Austin ISD board members weighed in for the first time since Superintendent Matias Segura made big changes to the school consolidation and boundary change plan.

On Tuesday night, Segura removed three of the 13 schools that were slated to close under the proposal, due to declining enrollment and a nearly $20 million budget shortfall.

The move comes as Segura said the district is investigating how community feedback has been applied to the plan. He said some staff have been placed on leave because of it.

"It's not lost on me that these decisions that we're making are not, you know, short term decisions," Segura said. "These decisions and the changes that we're recommending will change the district, really forever."
