GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Greenville city leaders are considering a plan that would prohibit future businesses from operating past midnight in parts of downtown. The move comes a few months after videos of fights in the area circulated across social media.

Based on data shared by the city’s police department, overall crime has gone down in the Central Business District. However, certain crimes—like disorderly conduct and simple and aggravated assaults—have increased.

To address the issue, the city wants to create a “Downtown Entertainment Overlay District,” which would include the areas between Beattie Place, North Spring Street, McBee Avenue, and Richardson Street.
