A young officer is in a serious condition after he was stabbed in the leg during a wild confrontation on Friday, police allege.

The probationary constable, 23, had been called to a home on Werombi Rd in Grasmere, in Sydney ’s southwest, about 5.20pm over reports a person had breached an apprehended violence order.

A spear was allegedly launched at cops and the officer was stabbed when they tried to arrest a 20-year-old man.

Police said they tasered the man before taking him into custody.

The officer was treated by paramedics and airlifted to Liverpool Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Detective have launched an investigation, with a knife, hatchet and spear seized from the scene.
