WHITESTONE, Indiana — A cleaning woman who went to the wrong address was shot and killed Wednesday as her husband stood nearby when she attempted to enter the home, police say.

Maria Florinda Ríos Pérez, 32, an immigrant from Guatemala, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a statement from the Whitestone Metropolitan Police Department. She died of a single gunshot to the head, the Boone County Coroner’s Office ruled, the Indianapolis Star reports .

Police were called to the home just before 7 a.m. with a report about a “possible” residential entry in progress, the news release says. When officers arrived, they tried to perform medical aid but Ríos Pérez already was dead.
