: The Jaintia National Council (JNC) has expressed regret over the ongoing protest staged by the Meghalaya Commercial Truck Owners and Drivers Association (MCTODA) against unpaid transportation rates by cement factories.

In a statement issued on Friday, JNC president Sambormi Lyngdoh stated that the union met with MCTODA members and discovered that the company has paid the rates to the truckers as per government standards, but the payment has not been received by all truckers.

Lyngdoh alleged that the district council is bolstering non-tribal businesses and allowing companies to acquire their own trucks, which is affecting the livelihoods of local truck owners and drivers.
