Clarion Ledger records show the city of Jackson recorded nearly 100 homicides from January to October 2024, while during that same period in 2025, homicides have decreased significantly to 63 so far this year.

From Jan. 1 to Oct. 31, 2024, Jackson saw 97 homicides. The Jackson Police Department investigated 91 cases and Mississippi Capitol Police investigated six cases.

From Jan. 1 to Oct. 31, 2025, Jackson saw 63 homicides. Jackson police investigated 54 cases and Capitol Police investigated nine cases.

The overall decline from 2024 to 2025 reflects an approximate 35% reduction in homicides.

Jackson Police Deputy Chief of Police for the Investigative Services Bureau Sequerna Banks told the Clarion Ledger via an emailed statement that the reduction is due to collaborative efforts
