PHOENIX — Phoenix police have arrested a suspect in what was described by police as the "brutal murder" of a woman found stabbed to death on Friday.

According to police, the deadly stabbing happened at a residence located in the area of 19th Avenue and Grant Street, east of Interstate 17.

Phoenix police said officers responded at about 4 a.m. to a call of a man who allegedly killed a woman inside his residence.

Police identified the woman as 31-year-old Paxton Wallance.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers found Wallace deceased in the home, and she had sustained multiple stab wounds.

Police said the male suspect, identified as Jeffrey Rael, 47, was taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and later released. He will be booked into jail.

The investigation is ongoing.
