PORTLAND, Maine (WMTW) - Portland Jetport is warning travelers to expect delays and cancellations as flight restrictions take effect at airports around the United States.
On Friday, the Federal Aviation Administration began an initiative to reduce air traffic at 40 high-volume airports around the U.S. by 10% to reduce the strain on air traffic controllers due to the ongoing government shutdown.
While Portland is not among the airports implementing restrictions, Jetport officials warn the ripple effects of those cuts could be felt by Maine fliers.
“Each of our airline partners is reviewing their schedules and will be making operational decisions to meet the flight restrictions,” said Jetport Director Paul Bradbury.
