ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A new candidate has entered the New York gubernatorial race. On Friday, Rep. Elise Stefanik announced her run.

Stefanik teased as much Thursday during an interview on "The Story with Martha McCallum."

"It will be very, very soon, and people are excited, and the overwhelming support from the Republican Party, from the Conservative Party, and many democrats, who previously supported Kathy Hochul, are lining up in support," she told the Fox News anchor.

Friday morning, Stefanik announced her run, stating she looks to bring a new leadership to Albany to make New York affordable and safe.
