Police in Lilongwe have re-arrested 11 suspects accused of robbery and malicious damage at Mbowe, just days after they were granted bail by Magistrate Wanangwa Nyirenda.
According to reports, the re-arrest is linked to allegations of attacks on peaceful demonstrations by civil servants at the Area 18 Memorial Tower.
The suspects were initially released on a K100,000 bail bond each and were ordered to provide two sureties bonded at K2 million each. They were also instructed to report to Area 30 Police Headquarters every two weeks, refrain from interfering with witnesses, and surrender all travel documents to the court.
Magistrate Nyirenda had adjourned the case to 3 December 2025 before the re-arrest took place.
