TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) -- A recently filed bill would require portraits of former presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln to be displayed in Florida public school classrooms.
The bill, titled "an act relating to patriotic displays in classrooms," was filed Thursday by Republican state Sen. Danny Burgess, who represents parts of Pasco and Hillsborough counties.
If passed, it would require images of the first and 16th presidents to be displayed "in a conspicuous place" in all kindergarten through fifth grade classrooms. The portraits would also appear "in each classroom that is primarily used for social studies instruction."
