TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Florida classrooms could be required to display portraits of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

A bill filed by Republican Senator Danny Burgess seeks to amend current legislation that allows school districts to adopt rules requiring “programs of a patriotic nature to encourage greater respect for the government.”

SB 420 would add the display of portraits of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln in a conspicuous place in classrooms used for social studies and in each kindergarten through fifth-grade classroom.

The Department of Education would choose the portraits and make them available to each school district.
