SOUTHWEST COLORADO (KREX) - A female gray wolf was confirmed dead on Oct. 30 in Southwest Colorado, Colorado Parks and Wildlife announced Friday.

CPW didn't give an exact location of where the wolf died. The animal was part of a group relocated to Colorado from British Columbia in January 2025.

As a federally listed species under the Endangered Species Act, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is investigating the death. A determination of the cause of death will not be made until the investigation is finished, which includes the necropsy, according to CPW.

Last month, the Trump Administration directed Colorado to stop importing gray wolves from Canada and source the animals from the northern Rocky Mountain states instead.
