WASHINGTON — DC's Brandywine Valley SPCA is working to clear the shelters this weekend as they move to a new location in southwest DC.
Along with Mayor Muriel Bowser, they cut the ribbon on the state-of-the-art DC-owned center in DC Village this week that also includes a low cost animal hospital. Combining facilities, though, means more pets than they can hold.
"We need to find homes for our over-capacity of wonderful animals ... so if you're looking to adopt, now is the perfect time," spokesperson for the SPCA Erin Johnston said.
They are waiving adoption fees through Sunday, Nov. 9.
The timing also comes as the shutdown has impacted the center, too.
"We are seeing an increase in intakes," Johnston said. "A lot of people are coming forward that are experiencing financial hardship. We
