PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV) - The Oregon Department of Fish & Wildfire says it has captured and killed a coyote that bit a child in the Alameda neighborhood of Portland last month.
On the evening of Oct. 23, a 9-year-old child and their 3-year-old sibling were playing hide-and-seek when the coyote approached. ODFW says the animal grabbed the 9-year-old child’s foot , which was only covered by a sock.
The child was taken to a hospital and treated for minor injuries.
ODFW says the coyote believed to be involved was captured on Oct. 31 less than one mile from the attack. ODFW says the animal was then humanely killed.
Coyote DNA collected from the victim’s sock was tested, and ODFW was informed on Nov. 5 that the DNA was a match with the coyote captured and put down on Oct. 31.
