After a monthslong investigation by local, state and federal agents, indictments against 38 Middle Tennesseans were handed down in what the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation called a "dismantling" of a fentanyl pipeline in the state.

The Tennessean is not naming those charged until additional information is provided.

Acting United States Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee Robert McGuire announced during a Nov. 6 press conference at the Fred D. Thompson Federal Building and Courthouse that the indictment involved drug traffickers, violent criminals and MS-13 gang members.

McGuire was joined by agents from Homeland Security, Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, the FBI, the military, Metro Nashville Police and Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.
