HANNIBAL (WGEM) - Residents in Hannibal voted on Tuesday to give the Hannibal mayor the power to appoint people to government boards as opposed to the city manager.

Proposition M gives the mayor the power to appoint people to the Board of Public Works, the Park Board, the Zoning Commission, and the Board of Adjustment.

“It was more appropriate that elected officials make those decisions on those board seats instead of an unelected official,” said Scott Haycraft, first ward councilman.

Hannibal residents also approved the public safety tax .
