A helicopter carrying Russian defence plant officials crashed in flames onto a private house today, with four people onboard “burned to death”.

Three were rescued from the stricken Ka-226 and rushed to hospital in Russia . One is in an “extremely grave” condition, reports suggest. The helicopter was carrying senior staff from Kizlyar Electromechanical Plant, sanctioned over the war in Ukraine , which makes ground control and diagnostic systems as well as equipment for Sukhoi and MiG attack aircraft.

The cause of a crash - described as a “catastrophe” by the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency - remains unclear. The Ka-226 helicopter came down in the village of Achi-Su in the southern region Dagestan.
