LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KRQE) – A Las Cruces woman is behind bars and facing over 100 charges related to identity theft. Karen Michelle Montoya, 37, was arrested Thursday and booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center.

Montoya faces 82 counts of receiving stolen property, 21 counts of stolen identity and eight counts of forgery. Court documents state the charges stem from an investigation that began in 2023. When Las Cruces Police checked her apartment they found boxes of stolen documents, bank checks, forged signatures and two motorcycles.
