The Alberta government has opened a survey seeking feedback on whether the 110 km/h speed limit on divided highways, like the Queen Elizabeth II, should be increased to 120 km/h.

The online survey began Friday and also asks Albertans which highways should be prioritized for the speed limit increase, and seeks input on potentially banning commercial trucks from using the far-left lane on highways with three or more lanes.

“The speed is not set to what the road allowance is, and we’re ending up with people getting tickets, getting slowed down, and problems as a result of that,” Premier Danielle Smith said at an unrelated Friday news conference.

After the survey closes on Dec. 12, the province plans to conduct a trial of a 120 km/h speed limit to assess its impact.
