Families affected by last month’s devastating storms are getting a helping hand from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.
The department has extended the moose hunting season in areas impacted by the remnants of Typhoon Halong. The storms made it difficult for many to hunt and destroyed meat that had been saved for winter. The extension gives these families a chance to replace what they lost.
Ryan Scott from the Division of Wildlife Conservation said, “People will be able to take advantage of the hunt and harvest additional moose and help folks in the villages that were the hardest hit, replace some of those foodstuffs that they would count on.”
Alaskans who haven’t harvested a moose since July 1st are eligible to participate, provided they have a valid hunting license. The bag limit
