California Rep. Nancy Pelosi announced she would not run for reelection on Thursday, Nov. 6, marking an end to her decades in Congress and opening her seat right in time for the midterm elections next year.
The 85-year-old, who made history as the first woman to serve as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, did not explain why she wasn’t running for reelection in her nearly six-minute video, published on X .
“With a grateful heart, I look forward to my final year of service as your proud representative,” Pelosi said.
