DULUTH — It will take more to feed local parking meters next year.
On Friday, the Duluth Planning Commission unanimously voted to begin charging $2 per hour for on-street metered parking — up 50 cents from what motorists now pay.
But the increase nevertheless is a downward departure from the $1 increase originally proposed.
Duluth Parking Manager Mark Bauer said the revised rate was informed by discussions with businesspeople, as well as Kristi Stokes, president of Downtown Duluth, an organization that represents many local stakeholders.
“I think we’ve landed on a nice mitigative rate,” he said, describing it as the product of “a very cooperative discussion.”
Downtown Duluth representatives wrote a letter in support of the $2-per-hour compromise parking meter fee.
