NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Police have arrested a man for a homicide that happened nearly three years ago in Newport News .
33-year-old Michael Tavon Moore was arrested Friday for the shooting death of 32-year-old James Curtis Jones.
Newport News Police said on the night of December 7, 2022, officers responded to the 2100 block of Oak Avenue following a ShotSpotter activation. Nearby, they located Jones outside of a home on Hampton Drive, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Jones was pronounced dead at the scene.
Moore is now charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and probation violation on a felony offense.
Police credited the use of "technological assets" as well as citizen assistance in identifying Moore
