House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) on Friday signaled his openness to a proposed one-year extension of expiring Affordable Care Act tax credits as a way to end the government shutdown.

Why it matters: Jeffries called a one-year extension proposed by House members "laughable" last month, but he has since proven flexible on several of his initial shutdown demands in an effort to reach a deal. • The House Democratic leader said ahead of the shutdown in September, that any ACA deal would have to be "ironclad" and "in legislation," but has since signaled he would be open to a handshake deal. • He has told reporters for several weeks that House Democrats would evaluate anything that is passed in "good faith" by the Senate.
