President Donald Trump will be at Northwest Stadium on Sunday.

The government remains shut down, but President Donald Trump will be in attendance Sunday when the Washington Commanders host the Detroit Lions at Northwest Stadium.

On Friday, the news was reported on the Pat McAfee Show on ESPN, when the host reported that "sources" told him the president would be in attendance at the game.

That news was later confirmed by top Commanders brass, who confirmed that the president's appearance will be part of a wider initiative set up by the league to celebrate the military.

"We are honored to welcome President Trump to the game as we celebrate those who have served and continue to serve our country,” Team President Mark Clouse said in a statement.

“The entire Commanders organization is proud to participate in the NFL’s league-wide Salute to Service initiative, recognizing the dedication and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans, active-duty service members, and their families this Sunday.”

Trump will reportedly be sitting in a box with Commanders owner Josh Harris — months after arguing there was a "big clamoring" for the name to be changed back to the Washington Redskins, even calling them the "Washington Whatever's" in a Truth Social post.

“I think the Indian population is a great part of this country, and a great heritage… We were talking about Massapequa on Long Island… The Chiefs, they call themselves… The Kansas City Chiefs… They’re not changing their name.”

“I think it’s degrading to the Indian population, and it’s a great population. They like when they’re called by various names.”

Trump acknowledged that the situation in Washington is “a little different,” though he shared his take on the team’s name.

“Perhaps that is a little different… a bit different… but I can tell you I spoke to people of Indian heritage who love that name, and I think it’s a much superior name to what they have right now,” he said. “It had heritage behind it, and it was something special.

Fans are being advised to show up early for Sunday's game, as there will be increased security at the stadium, and it may take longer to make it to their seats.

The Lions-Commanders game is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. on Sunday in Landover and will be aired nationally on FOX.
