OSHKOSH, Wis. (WBAY) - The Wisconsin DNR has an update about the number of round gobies identified in the Lake Winnebago system following weeks of monitoring and mitigation efforts.

As we reported in September , the DNR is taking measures to conduct intensive, targeted monitoring efforts to prevent the spread of the round goby species.

Round gobies are invasive species that feed on the eggs of other species and compete with native fish for food.

On September 18 th , the DNR told Action 2 News that there were 9 total round gobies captured.

Now, the DNR says the total number observed has jumped up to more than 50.
