PEKIN, Ill. (WMBD) -- Pekin residents have been pumping iron and smacking tennis balls at a local gym for half a century.

Parkside Fitness, located next to Pekin High School, is celebrating 50 years in business this weekend, and is opening up the facility to everyone, including non-members.

Keith Knox, the gym's manager, said they are proud to be a pillar in the community, where people can go to workout at a reasonable price.

"We're happy to be here in Pekin for fifty years," he said, "being able to present an affordable opportunity for our citizens and community to take advantage of the great fitness and health offerings that we have here in the facility."
