COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) -More than a dozen state elected officials toured Colorado Springs Friday alongside city and county leaders, focused on homelessness and crime concerns of small businesses.
One stop on the tour was to Spencer’s Lawn and Garden Center near I-25 and South Nevada, where the owner says his store has been damaged and broken into several times by people he suspects are homeless. The area surrounding the store and stretching up to Fountain Creek has had several homeless camps in recent years.
“We have a bad homeless problem,” said store owner Mike Spencer. “Quite frankly, they’ll just walk into our business back where our produce is and just start taking stuff and walk off. The police will come and arrest them, but by the time the officer’s done filling out the pa
