TELLER COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) -Hundreds of people showed up Friday to donate food, coats and baby supplies during a county-wide food drive in Woodland Park.
The event, part of the Teller County Cares Food Initiative, was organized by the Teller County Commissioners along with local leaders and first responders. It took place outside Walmart, where store managers said food sales were up nearly 90% as shoppers bought extra items to give away.
Commissioners say they won’t know the full amount of food collected until Wednesday, but donations filled several trucks and a large storage room.
After the drive ended, the county received $45,000 in donations $30,000 from the Teller County Saddle Club and $15,000 from Community Cares Bible College. The money will go to five local food banks to help r
