The platform accused of killing the Australian music scene is trying to bring it back to life.
But for many artists and venues, the damage has already been done.
Spotify unveiled a new feature in October that will allow users in select cities including Sydney follow their favourite venues, see their live show offerings and find a link to buy tickets.
During its joint announcement with the NSW government, Arts Minister John Graham acknowledged streaming had hurt the local scene before insisting the move could "be one of the things that makes live music thrive".
While the idea is seen as a step in the right direction, Jim Flanagan - who owns Sydney music venue Lazy Thinking - doesn't expect it to make a major difference for Australia's independent artists.
