WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Deportation protections will end at midnight Friday for thousands of Venezuelans across the country.

Temporary Protected Status was first granted to Venezuelans in 2021 under President Joe Biden and was later expanded in 2023. Just days before leaving office, Biden extended the status again through October 2026.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has revoked the protections, saying conditions in Venezuela no longer require protected status.

Now more than 250,000 Venezuelans across America will be classified as undocumented immigrants, including thousands in Kansas.
