CLEVELAND, Ohio — Anthony Wayne held off Hudson on Friday afternoon to win the OHSAA Division II girls soccer state championship, 3-2, at Historic Crew Stadium in Columbus.
The game showcased two unbeaten teams, with Anthony Wayne finishing its season 19-0-3, and Hudson 19-1-1.
Anthony Wayne jumped out to a 2-0 lead midway through the first half with goals from Lila Simon at 31:46 and Lydia Smucker at 24:45. Hudson responded when Hannah Meese scored with just under three minutes remaining in the half, cutting the deficit to 2-1 at halftime.
Smucker restored Anthony Wayne’s two-goal advantage early in the second half, knocking in a rebound off a long free kick at 32:05. Hudson’s Chloe Bigham made it 3-2 on a free kick with 13:19 left to play, but the Explorers couldn’t find the equalizer
