CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Congresswoman Ashley Hinson met with veterans at the Freedom Foundation Friday afternoon as the government shutdown continued to affect military families and veterans services.
“Cause I think we want answers, they wanna know. All we hear is what we see on social media,” said Brian Eschen, president of the Freedom Foundation, a veterans’ support nonprofit.
Eschen said he has seen more people rely on the foundation’s food pantry as SNAP benefits have not been distributed in November. He said he is particularly concerned about military members who have not been paid since the government shutdown began.
