WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) -- A Missouri police department has added Teslas to its fleet of vehicles.
Our sister station, KSNF in Joplin, reports that the Carl Junction Police Department has added two Tesla Model Y vehicles to its fleet. One is currently assigned to the detective division, while another is used for patrol.
Model Ys can retail for between $43,000 and $ 54,000, depending on options like rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. KSNF spoke with Officer Amos Bindel, who is assigned to the patrol Tesla.
Bindel says he has only had to charge the vehicle every three days compared to filling the gas tank daily on his old patrol vehicle.
“To fill it up from zero to 100 percent is roughly $2.30. In comparison in fuel, if gas was $2 a gallon, which it's not, 12 gallons is $24,” said Bindel.
