BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - With the sun setting earlier, research shows an increase in crashes the week after Daylight Saving involving deer and other animals.
According to a study , deer collisions increase by 16% in the first two weeks after we turn back our clocks. The shift can catch animals off guard and you’ll likely see more of them crossing the roads.
“They tend to move in groups most of the time, too. If you see one deer on the side of the road, odds are there are several more very close by,” said Clay Ingram with AAA.
Around 200 people die each year from deer collisions, and they cause anywhere from 25,000-59,000 injuries.
Ingram says the best thing you can do is pay attention. If you do come across a deer, try to slow down.
