SOUTH ORANGE – For the second straight year, game two was a reality check for Seton Hall basketball in the cozy confines of historic Walsh Gym.

The difference: The Pirates didn’t take a season-wrecking loss this time.

One year after getting stunned by Fordham at the buzzer, the Hall held off Wagner 68-61 in a contest that exposed plenty of weaknesses or, if you prefer, areas for improvement.

Junior wing Elijah Fisher, who transferred in from Pacific and previously played at DePaul, carried the Hall across the finish line with 19 points.

After trailing 31-30 at the half, the Pirates had to scrap over the final 20 minutes with assistance from a rocking home crowd. They’re 2-0, but with question marks galore after an impressive opener against Saint Peter’s.
