COLUMBIA, S.C. — Dreher High School is mourning the sudden loss of beloved teacher and coach, Coach Chris Allen, who passed away on Wednesday.

Principal Dr. Joe Eberlin described him as someone who had a unique ability to connect with every student he met.

“He was that guy that could walk down a hallway and not know a single student. And by the time he got to the end, he knew every single one of them. And none of them were going to ever forget him,” said Eberlin.

Friday night, the Blue Devils football team took the field for the first time since his passing. Eberlin says breaking the news to the team was heartbreaking.

“So we got them together on Wednesday afternoon to break the news to them. And they're devastated. A lot of sad faces, lots of hugs, lots of tears,” he said.
