NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Three members of New Mexico's Congressional delegation are pressing FEMA for answers on unpaid claims for victims of the Hermit Peak Calf Canyon Fire. The wildfires, which were started by the U.S. Forest Service, burned 341,000 acres and destroyed at least 900 homes in 2022, and flash flooding caused even more damage. Nearly $5.5 billion was set aside to compensate victims for their losses.
The Hermits Peak/Calf Canyon Claims Office had said all claims would be paid by March. But in a letter sent to two FEMA officials, Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernandez (D-New Mexico), along with Sen.
