FREDERICK — Sonny Delpizzo may be the smallest guy on the football field on any given night, but his presence so far in his senior season has been larger than life.
“I’m about 5–6. I like to say I’m 6-foot, though,” the Frederick slot receiver said with a smile. “I don’t take the height thing to heart or anything. I’m going to play as hard as I can no matter what, and I’m going to show you that I won’t go down without a fight no matter what. And If I’m shorter, if I’m weaker than you, I’m still going to take you down no matter what.”
That’s about all he did in the No. 15 Golden Eagles’ Class 4A first-round, 35-7 playoff win against No. 18 Bear Creek on Friday night. No one could seem to stop him in his 188-yard, three-touchdown performance to open up the postseason.
