NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A new mural at a Metro park has been unveiled that honors a legendary Negro League baseball player.
A mural depicting Norman “Turkey” Stearnes, a legendary baseball player who was born and raised in Nashville, has been unveiled at E.S. Rose Park, Metro Parks said.
“Stearnes made his Negro League debut in 1920, playing center fielder for the Nashville Elite Giants,” Metro Parks said.
A boy playing baseball with a stick and bottle cap is also depicted in the art, in order to showcase “the stories community members shared about their time growing up in Edgehill neighborhood,” according to Metro Parks.
Here are instructions on how to watch WSMV4 live on various platforms.
Belmont University student Joanna Wu created the mural after being selected by a panel.
