A US official has revealed that the elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran plotted to assassinate Einat Kranz Neiger, the Israeli ambassador to Mexico, beginning in late 2024 and continuing into the first half of 2025.
The plot was reportedly foiled and “contained," with no immediate threat now posed, according to the official, who spoke anonymously to Reuters. Details of how the operation was disrupted have not been disclosed.
US and Israeli authorities say this alleged attempt fits a larger pattern of Iran targeting diplomats, journalists, dissidents, and others abroad.
