BAILEYVILLE, Maine — The Maine Department of Labor will provide direct unemployment insurance support to employees affected by an upcoming temporary layoff at Woodland Pulp in Baileyville , the department announced Friday.
The mill, Washington County's largest employer, plans to pause operations at its pulp mill and wood chip plant from late November through mid-December due to market conditions, according to both the department and reporting from The Maine Monitor.
About two-thirds of Woodland Pulp's Maine workforce, roughly 144 employees, are expected to be impacted. The layoff will begin Nov. 22 and continue through Dec. 16.
