EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - Michigan State's hockey team began conference play with a thriller.
The top-ranked Spartans took down No. 3 Penn State, 2-1, in overtime. Senior Tiernan Shoudy scored the game-winner for MSU with under three minutes to play in OT.
"It's unbelievable," Shoudy said after the game. "At the time (of the game-winner), I was so tired because it was kind of a long shift, so I was like, 'Gosh, at least I get to get off (the ice).' It was unbelievable, the guys were great. We're all super happy to beat those guys. It's a huge matchup."
Michigan State would start the scoring on the night. In the first period, freshman Anthony Romani scored with 2:51 to play in the period. Penn State tied things up in the second period from Reese Laubach.
